• I’m honored to be accepted into the Young Artist Program of Da Camera of Houston. Da Camera is an organization that puts on top-notch concerts of chamber music with some of the best performers today; last night I heard Sarah Rothenberg and the Brentano Quartet premiere Tobas Picker’s new piano quintet. As a composer in the Young Artist Program, I’ll be composing for a few performances around town. Should be exciting!
• Flutist Heather McKee and four other wind players will be presenting the second performance of my Wind Quintet ‘Quodlibets’ November 7 at Western Carolina University
• Michael Moore and the Bob Jones University Chamber Winds will be premiering their commission of my first chamber symphony, ‘Night Music.’ The performance will take place October 14 in Greenville, SC.
• Current projects: On the front burner, a flute sonata, a second piano trio and a work for percussion duo; back burner, a choral piece and a fifth movement for the Book of Hours set.
• And finally, Hinshaw will be releasing Sicut Cervus (SATB) in early 2012.

1) The New York premiere went great! Delaura Talbert was fantastic, of course, and made the work come alive. I got some great feedback from the audience. The concert was organized by DETOUR New Music, and took place at the Gershwin Hotel. Fun place.

2) Finished the next piece for DETOUR: another, fourth installment in the Book of Hours series, titled ‘The Dark Watches.’ James Bester is making his NYC debut and will be playing this and several other premieres August 5 at The Cell. Do come visit!

3) Started work on the new flute sonata, tentatively titled Myths and Dreams.
