‘Ayres and Madrigals’ premiere!
For all of you in the Chicago area, head down to Ganz Hall (430 South Michigan Avenue) this Saturday night at 7:30, when tenor John Warren will premiere my Ayres and Madrigals, Book One! I really do wish I could be there for the recital (John is an excellent tenor and a great friend), but this is a busy time of year, with the last semester of my Master’s degree drawing to a close and several unfinished commissions (incidentally, stay tuned for another announcement) lying on my desk. But I’m sure John will do great, and I can’t wait to hear the recording!
With the good news from the ASCAP competition still fresh, I’m still waiting on three: the NATS Art Song Competition (I sent Ayres and Madrigals), this year’s Vanguard Voices competition (sent in the new Sicut Cervus), and the 2007 Monument Piano Trio composition competition (yup. Looking back on that piano trio, I’ve come a long way!!). Also, I’ll find out soon about summer plans; I’ve applied to two summer festivals in northern Italy; unfortunately, the both take place over the same time period.
Finally, let me say a big thank-you to Dr. Warren Cook and the BJU Chamber Singers for singing ‘O nata lux’ from the Five Motets last Saturday night. It was truly a great performance, if I may say so myself! I’m honored to have Dr. Cook program one of my works, and plus, it’s hard enough for composers these days to secure a second performance of their works, let alone a performance by such a fine ensemble.
