Summer, again

It seems as if I just posted about the year being over! But summer is here again. Congratulations to Crystal Fox for a great premiere of ‘Scarborough Fair’; I received some great feedback about it. Incidentally, the recording has been posted to my page at iLike.com!

In other news: the sonata for double bass, commissioned by Alex Jones, is almost finished– just a few more things to tweak. I’ve also made some good progress on the song cycle for Kara Halleck, the setting of Muriel Rukeyser’s Iris. The poem cycle is very colorful; the words ‘blue’ and ‘light’ show up at various points throughout the poems. I’ve had a great time setting them so far; ‘Middle of May’ and ‘Something is over and under this deep blue,’ the first two (of five), are finished, and the third is coming right along. So, I’ll be looking forward to finishing this set soon as well!
