Well, the 2 Herbert Songs premiered last weekend! On the program, per our decision, the pieces appeared as two songs from The Temple.  Of course, the George Herbert texts I’ve used are from his mammoth set of poetry by the same name; I intend to eventually compile a good long set of these for mezzo and string quartet (and who knows, maybe other combinations of voices and instruments!).  More songs will be added as commissions come in.

Gloriane and the string quartet did a fabulous job.  Best of all, I thought, was the ease with which listeners could comprehend the wonderfully moving text.  The musicians put many hours of hard work into learning and performing this music, and I’m very grateful to them for such a good premiere!
